FAQ

At OSTI, we are here to help you though every step of the process. The following are answers to frequently asked questions. If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Can I choose where I go for physical therapy?

Yes. As a patient, you have the choice. While the majority of our patients are referred to OSTI clinics by their physician, many choose OSTI because of our strong reputation in the community or the specialty services we offer. We have locations close to home and the ability to schedule your first visit within 24-48 hours.

Do I need a physician referral to receive physical therapy?

No. As of August 2018, patients can be seen by a licensed physical therapist without a prescription from their physician. In addition to providing you with a thorough assessment of your condition, we will communicate with your medical provider to ensure that we effectively manage your care.

*Most insurance plans cover Direct Access, but Medicare and workman’s compensation do not. Please contact our office for details about your specific plan.

What is Direct Access?

On August 26, 2018, the state of Illinois passed Direct Access into law. Direct Access allows patients to be evaluated and treated by a physical therapist without a prescription from a physician. Previously, patients had to obtain a referral from their physician to start physical therapy. However, physical therapy is now an option for initial treatment of pain and other musculoskeletal issues.

Can I ask my doctor to refer me to physical therapy?

Yes. If you are having pain or are unable to do activities that you normally do, physical therapy can help. Have that conversation with your doctor or call us to schedule a free injury screen today.

Does your facility accept my insurance?

We participate in the majority of major health insurance plans including Medicare and Worker’s Compensation, and we are happy to verify your insurance benefits for you.

Please contact us prior to your first visit to see if we participate in your specific health plan.

What can I expect at my first appointment?

On your first visit, your physical therapist will perform a thorough examination of your condition, discuss findings with you, and develop a treatment plan. Together, you will start treatment to help you achieve your goals.

What do I need to bring to my first visit?

· Referral from your doctor

· Medical insurance card

· Photo ID

· Any necessary paperwork – or arrive 15 minutes early to fill it out

· Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely

How long is each treatment session?

Each session lasts about an hour. Times may vary depending on patient needs.

How often will I go to physical therapy?

The frequency of your visits will be determined after your initial evaluation, but most patients attend 3 visits each week.
